Rick has served as the Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) for Hays CISD since June 2024, bringing 28 years of experience in CTE to the role—including three years as CTE Coordinator in Hays CISD and four years as CTE Director in a neighboring district. Over the course of his career, he has worked as a high school teacher, community college instructor, and university adjunct professor, in addition to his district-level leadership roles. A former board member of the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT), Rick is also a frequent presenter at both state and national CTE conferences. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to empowering students through real-world, career-focused education.

With over 20 years of dedicated service to Hays CISD—including 18 years in the classroom and more than 15 years in Career and Technical Education (CTE)—Shelly brings a wealth of experience and a strong passion for student success to her role as CTE Coordinator. She was instrumental in launching the district’s Biomedical Science Program and has taught a variety of CTE courses, including Principles of Biomedical Science, Biomedical Innovations, Anatomy & Physiology, and Financial Math.

During her seven years as CTE Department Chair, Shelly provided strong leadership in expanding course offerings and enriching student experiences—including leading the clinical rotation program at Hays High School. Prior to stepping into her current role, she also served as a Digital Learning Coach, supporting innovative, technology-driven instructional practices across the district.

Shelly earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science and Master’s degree in Lesson Design & Technology from Texas A&M University. She is a proud member of a family that has been deeply connected to Hays CISD for over 40 years, with many relatives who have graduated from the district. Her daughter graduated from Hays High School in 2021, and her son, currently a junior, is among the many family members still enrolled. This strong personal connection fuels Shelly’s commitment to the district’s success. She is passionate about the powerful opportunities the CTE program provides and is committed to helping students explore meaningful pathways toward college, careers, and lifelong success.

Vanessa has dedicated the past 26 years to supporting students and teachers through a wide range of roles, including classroom teacher, instructional specialist, and coordinator. Her focus has always been on providing meaningful instructional support to educators, helping them strengthen their practice and better serve their students. Vanessa is deeply committed to building strong, student-centered Career and Technical Education programs that reflect both workforce needs and the talents of every learner. Her work is grounded in collaboration, coaching, and a passion for equipping teachers with the tools they need to help students thrive.

Toni is a proud Hays High School graduate who also attended Durham’s Business College. Bringing over 40 years of expertise in accounting and bookkeeping, she has been an integral part of the Hays CISD team for the past four years. Toni has been happily married for 42 years and treasures her family, which includes two daughters, three grandsons, and one great-grandson.

An avid outdoors enthusiast, Toni enjoys hunting, fishing, gardening, and swimming. She also loves spending time in the kitchen, experimenting with new recipes and cooking for her loved ones. Toni’s combination of professional experience and personal passion makes her a valued member of the Hays CISD CTE team.
