Hey guys, I just want to explain the purpose of the references page in terms of the IWA rubric. It's a BIG ethos builder for these two rows of the row rubric, above (and in your stimulus packet). The first thing your reader will do is scroll through your paper to the end and skim your references page--it's how we're trained--in order to make a judgment about the overall quality of your sources--for row 5--and the accuracy of your citation style--for row 6. It's an important, and hopefully, easy way to score high points.
I'm noticing some common errors in both credibility of sources and in APA formatting, so I'm creating a check list for peer review. Share your references page with your partner before 5 pm on Tuesday, peer comments are due before 11:59 pm on Wednesday.
Use this checklist to critique your peer review partner's references page. Be honest and kind. Please leave at least 3 comments in the document of the person you peer review. Refer to Purdue OWL's Sample APA Paper (the student one) for what the References page should look like.
The biggest difference between an IRR and a IWA is that your paper will focus on making an argument for the solution to your problem. You will spend less time in your paper describing the problem--in fact, this will happen mainly in your context & stakes paragraphs--and more time, the majority of the paper, giving the pros and cons of possible solutions. Take a look at my reverse outline of the sample paper "Utilizing Data Science to Establish Sustainable Agricultural Production System in China" (to the left).
Plan a line of reasoning for YOUR paper. As you decide on a course of action consider:
What information should I present first (the simplest, most common information goes first)?
What is the most logical way to build on this opening information?
Where in my argument should I present my ultimate solution?
How can I lead my readers to my conclusion in the most logical and effective way?
Share your LOR plan with me--via Google docs of G suite email--before the start of next class period. As always, you may take a picture of your work and send it to me.
