CAT refers to choices, appeals, and tone- the final part of the acronym SPACECAT that we use to guide the components of rhetorical analysis for a text or speech (more info about SPACECAT in the Lang FRQ section on the FRQ 2- Rhetorical Analysis page) . Typically, when an FRQ asks you to analyze rhetorical choices or the rhetorical situation, they are referring to all of CAT, not just the C. We know this can be a bit confusing, but the CollegeBoard lumps all parts of CAT into "choices", so make sure to remember that they are often asking for all parts of CAT!!!
