Synthesis writing is sometimes the easiest for Lang students because they have had to do various document based questions for other AP classes. That being said, make sure that you distinguish between the synthesis essay and DBQs for other classes, because they are not necessarily the same.
In this video I talk through some of the key components of the synthesis essay. Let me know if you want me to clarify anything!
Here is the info on FRQ1: Synthesis. Note the link to the rubric! Additionally, make sure that you check out google classroom for student exemplars and CB scoring info since I can't post those on here. Some key things to remember:
Read the prompt carefully! Be sure to actually and fully respond to the prompt.
You need to make sure your analysis/commentary makes some additional connections outside of what the sources say. Bring in that additional information to really strengthen your argument.
Remember that while this is synthesis, it is also argumentative. Make sure you are developing a line of reasoning and using effective argumentation.
Feel free to practice by using this practice prompt! Remember that you can access more in google classroom.
REMEMBER: You can ALWAYS book a Bulldog Time Session or other time to talk through past assessments or go through a practice passage together. You just need to let me know in advance!
