This is my 20th year in education. I have been married for 26 years as of October and have an 9th-grade daughter and a 12th-grade son in the Archer cluster. I enjoy camping, driving my motorcycle, and being poolside, and love a good binge-watch on a rainy day. I love Italian Renaissance Art and History in general, I can geek out on some History and Science when it comes to a collision with art or otherwise! I like to have fun and love to laugh and see my students find their way through their work and see that moment of pure satisfaction when they feel success for themselves. I run a TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) classroom for 3-5 grades, where students focus on skills and create projects that they have designed and have interest in versus everyone working on the same project. They learn to get feedback and accept feedback and we learn how to plan for our work. This can only happen because we work so hard in the lower K-2 grades on learning vocabulary and building artistic skills, techniques, and responsibility as artists in a community. Lower grades work on more traditional projects and experience teambuilding on Fridays to further develop our Artistic community's abilities and prepare them for what's to come.
Please find all digital learning day work within your students google classroom. Please see this video to help assist you in locating it, if you are NOT using a GCPS provided chrome book use this link for a video if you are using your child's GCPS provided chrome book. Some links for their digital learning day work are videos about artists, others are museums to explore or components of art to review.
Keep in mind some of these are museums and I DO NOT CONTROL THE CONTENT or when the content is changed, it is being provided as a resource for them to have experiences with museum settings virtually and to have access to art materials and facts as enrichment. Some museums do exhibit pieces of art that I do not use as visuals or resources in the elementary setting, if this is concerning to you please feel free to click on a different link to explore, students can do any of the activities to learn none are specified, it is a choice board in slide format.
If there is a need to make contact with me during the digital learning day, e-mail or parent square is the preferred method. I may be in meetings or away from my desk but I will get back in touch with you as soon as I can.
In the art studio, we work hard at the four major components of our Curriculum: Creating, Presenting, Responding, and Connecting! Through Creation, we envision and generate plans for our ideas and goals, individually and as groups. We explore and improve our media techniques and processes to complete a work of art through the safe and appropriate use of materials and the 3 R's that are expected in Specials: Respect, Responsible, and Ready to Learn- these encompass all of our TIGER Traits and are necessary in our fast paced learning environment. In Presenting, we begin to recognize ourselves as artists and show that through the use of vocabulary and sharing of ideas and discoveries. Responding is when we learn that we are viewers of art. We work at learning and using multiple methods on how to reflect on our processes and products and those of others, for improvement and satisfaction in success. We also work on a variety of projects that allow for a variety of Presenting and Responding opportunities to build our visual literacy. Connecting is my favorite part, this is where we develop life skills (e.g., collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication) through the study and production of art. This is when we are investigating community and culture and integrating all of our knowledge from our background experiences and core classroom knowledge into our work, like real artists.
Kindergarten- Second grade learners are using a more standard learning structure that provides them with more time for learning foundations and fundamentals firmly. Third- Fifth learners are using A TAB (Teaching Artistic Behavior) model promoting; individual planning, preparation, production, processing, problem-solving, and resolve of work. Students make more decisions freely as working artists do regarding their work.
