A GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION STEM-CERTIFIED PROGRAM
A GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION STEM-CERTIFIED PROGRAM
Is the Open House mandatory? Definitely not. It is mostly about making you the student comfortable with the school and finding your classes. If you are not able to make it, do not stress out about it. Open house is on Thursday July 30th this year. There will be an opportunity the following week to walk the schedule.
When do I get my schedule? Student schedules are typically available the morning of Open House, July 30th, in synergy. Remember passwords are re-set before then.
Why does my schedule not list a lunch? EPIC is unique because we have 7 classes instead of 6, and the schedule does not accurately represent your day. Your lunch will be during 6th period where it lists your Language Arts if you are in 9th or 10th grade.
Do we need specific supplies? In general, not really. We do have supply lists we provide. Here is a link to the 9th grade site with supplies for 9th grade EPIC classes. https://sites.google.com/g.gcpsk12.org/2627epic9th/supplies This website is accessible to all and will also have weekly guides for the 9th grade EPIC classes.
Can I change my schedule? The short answer is no. Drop/add ended in May. However, if you were unable to take a summer class that is a prerequisite for something in your schedule, you will need to see your counselor and the curriculum office as soon as possible. If you have concerns, please just message or email me at kelly.dyar@gcpsk12.org.
EPIC AP Classes: Summer Assignments
EPIC offers multiple AP classes within the program.
AP Biology, Enh Adv Alg + AP Pre-cal, AP Physics, and AP Lang do NOT have a summer assignment for EPIC.
EPIC AP Calculus AB has a summer assignment that was physically given to students in May. It is different than the assignment listed on the Mill Creek HS website for non-EPIC classes. If you have mis-placed that assignment, please see below.
The EPIC STEM program at MC went through a rigorous process with the Department of Education and is so proud to say we are officially re-certified in STEM until 2031!
Thank you to those who were able to visit during our Rising 9th grade parent night. If you were not able to come, to the right you will find the slide presentation.
Here is a link to a video of the presentation highlights.

The Mill Creek STEM program, EPIC, is built upon learning strategies that are experiential, project-based, innovative, collaborative, and cross-curricular. The program is a response to STEM industry calls for employees who have both a solid academic foundation and “soft” skills (e.g., interpersonal communications, working with others in a team) along with critical thinking skills. Students take four classes within the EPIC program - their science, math, and language arts academic classes as well as an engineering elective. The rest of their classes are traditional classes such as electives. EPIC students have the opportunity to take any AP courses available to other Mill Creek students as well as all electives offered at Mill Creek. EPIC students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities and clubs, as EPIC is a program that recognizes the benefits of being a well-rounded student.
EPIC students describe what the program means to them, in a video created by EPIC Physics/Capstone teacher, Mr. Harper.
The core concept within the program is embed in our acronym:
Experiential
Project-based
Innovative
Cross curricular and Collaborative
We hope that through the EPIC program, students are able to develop skills and traits such as these, which will help them greatly wherever they go.
