What's a project? What's a venture? Let's look at a few of the units and take a closer look at EPIC day-to-day.
PBL Instruction : PBL Units (Projects) are designed each semester with EPIC strategies in mind across the grade levels. At the core of a PBL unit is an authentic problem for students to solve. The projects are multi-week and include standards for all four EPIC subjects. Each grade level does 2 - 3 PBL projects per year.
Ventures : EPIC Ventures are smaller units with EPIC strategies in mind across the grade levels. These typically are shorter, lasting a couple of days up to one week. One of our favorites - the Arduino Ad-venture - has 10th grade students creating products from our Arduino kits using the Engineering Design Process while also learning about persuasive writing and ad creation. This is a great venture that focuses on building skills such as circuit building, basic coding and presentations. Ventures are key in preparing our students for the bigger PBL units.
