CDAT 9th and 10th grade students are with us for the first half of their day, allowing us to be more efficient, effective and creative with STEM. As part of this, they start Pathways in Technology, Engineering and/or Advanced Academics. A Pathway is simply a series of related courses, and CDAT Students have the opportunity to choose from multiple pathways in our STEM academy.
Students technology Pathways include Engineering, Game Design, or Computer Science, and at each level they can choose whether or not to take AP classes which make up the Advanced Academic pathways. Our students are the only Lanier High students with the opportunity to pursue an AP Capstone Diploma, starting in 10th grade with AP Seminar. According to the College Board, the focus of AP Seminar is to "Develop and practice the skills in research, collaboration, and communication that you’ll need in any academic discipline." Our students will use AP Seminar to help them with the writing of their other classes such as world history or biology, creating a more effective and efficient learning experience.
Outside of our pathways, students can pursue many other options such as band, orchestra, higher-level mathematics, and more. The AP Research in their junior year will allow them to develop a more thorough, self-selected project that can be used for a competitive STEM-focused team like robotics, the Science and Engineering Fair, or their own STEM-centric entrepreneurship.
