AP Capstone is an exciting new initiative from College Board. From their website:
Rather than teaching subject-specific content, these courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. Students who complete the two-year program can earn one of two different AP Capstone awards, which are valued by colleges across the United States and around the world.
What does that mean in CDAT?
We want the learning experience of our students to be as effective and efficient as possible.
In 10th grade, CDAT students (only CDAT students) will take AP Seminar in place of 10th grade language arts. Yes, it counts for this credit, you do not need to take 10th grade language arts as well. This course will support the writing you need to do for other classes, NOT additional research and writing. In short, it's helping you to write for required classes like World History or Biology.
In 11th grade, AP Research is an elective course where you apply the research skills learned in AP Seminar to the topic of your choice. Students can apply this to a science fair project, a robotics program, mathematics challenges, or whatever STEM interest YOU have!
Upon completion of these two courses, you will have earned one of two AP Capstone awards, the certificate or diploma.
Continuing CDAT students have first rights to participate in this program, but we do sometimes have some openings for students who choose to join CDAT in 10th grade.
