The Brookwood Agriculture Program believes that agricultural education extends beyond the classroom. While students gain foundational knowledge through lessons, notes, labs, and assessments, true learning occurs when students apply that knowledge in real-world situations. For this reason, the Brookwood Agriculture Leadership Sheet is a required component of every agricultural education course and is recorded as a test grade.
The Leadership Sheet is designed to provide students with meaningful opportunities to engage in hands-on agricultural experiences, leadership development, career exploration, and community involvement. Each activity listed on the Leadership Sheet has been intentionally selected because it aligns with agricultural education standards and allows students to apply concepts learned in class. Whether students are participating in FFA events, assisting with agricultural projects, attending workshops, competing in Career Development Events (CDEs), volunteering at school agricultural activities, or engaging in approved agricultural experiences, they are practicing skills that reinforce classroom instruction.
Unlike traditional tests that measure what a student can recall, the Leadership Sheet measures a student's ability to apply knowledge, demonstrate responsibility, develop leadership skills, and participate in experiential learning. These experiences represent the "learning by doing" philosophy that serves as the foundation of agricultural education.
The Leadership Sheet is not optional. Completion of Leadership Sheet requirements is a course expectation and is recorded as a test grade each semester.
Students who actively participate throughout the semester often find that the Leadership Sheet serves as a grade booster while simultaneously providing valuable experiences that cannot be replicated through classroom instruction alone. By earning points through agricultural activities, students are rewarded for applying their learning beyond the classroom and taking advantage of opportunities provided by the Brookwood Agriculture Program. Students are encouraged to complete Leadership Sheet requirements early and consistently rather than waiting until the end of the grading period.
To ensure that all activities align with course objectives and agricultural education standards, any activity completed outside of Brookwood High School-sponsored agricultural opportunities must receive prior approval from an agriculture teacher.
Approval must be obtained before participating in the activity.
Activities submitted after participation without prior approval may not be accepted for Leadership Sheet credit. Retroactive approval will not be granted.
If a student believes an outside activity may qualify, they should contact their agriculture teacher before participating to receive written approval and confirmation of the point value.
The Brookwood Agriculture Program is committed to providing numerous opportunities throughout the school year for students to earn Leadership Sheet points. Students will have access to a variety of activities that accommodate different interests, schedules, and agricultural pathways. Through participation, students will strengthen their agricultural knowledge, develop leadership skills, build career readiness, and gain valuable real-world experience that supports both academic and personal growth.
Agricultural education is more than what happens in the classroom—it is the application of knowledge through experience. The Leadership Sheet is one of the ways we ensure every student has the opportunity to learn by doing.
