Amidon Conservation Area is in the St. Francois Mountains. The small River (Castor) cut a slot through what is supposed to be Pink Rhyolite (author is color blind). Such narrows are referred to as “shut ins”. Note: this is one component of the “basement” of the St. Francois Aquifer-the igneous dome. PS-dry rocky areas like the left side below are known as “glades”. Some have desert like fauna and flora.
