Problem 1. Lazarus and the Cleric have 73 white pieces. Lazarus has twice as many white pieces as the Blind Man plus 1. How many white pieces do each have? Author Nº16
Problem 1 solution
Solution: Lázaro has 37 whites and the Cleric 36
Problem 2. In an isosceles triangle, the base is 6 cm shorter than the sides. What is the length of each side if the perimeter is 80 cm? (Author Nº29)
x = The length of each of the equal sides of the isosceles triangle.
Base = x - 6
Perimeter = The sum of the 3 sides = x + x + (x - 6) = 30
Solve: 3x - 6 = 30; 3x = 36; x = 36/3 = 12 (each side is equal)
· Equal sides = 12 cm
· Base 12 - 6 = 6 cm
