This section explains about the certificates necessary for purchasing a student commuter pass (Student Commuter Certificate).

1. To commute to Hongo area

In order to commute to Hongo area (Hongo campus, Yayoi campus, and Asano campus), please obtain a Student Commuter Certificate (business-card size, folded in half: as in sample image above) in accordance with the instructions of your department office


If you don't remember receiving it, it may have already been distributed, so you may need to recheck the distributed items you’ve received.

2. To commute to an area other than Hongo (Komaba, Kashiwa campus, etc.)

For students commuting to areas other than Hongo (Komaba, Kashiwa campus, etc.), we (Student Support Team) can also issue a Student Commuter Certificate. You can purchase a student commuter pass for the approved route by showing your Student Commuter Certificate at the station.

However, we can issue your certificate only in the following cases:

(1) Your laboratory is located in an area other than Hongo.

(2) You need to commute to an area other than Hongo more than 2 days a week to take classes.

Please consult us if you have any special circumstances other than the above.

In Japan, the academic year is considered to have ended on March 31, and new commuter passes for the 2025 academic year will be issued in April or later.

 

Currently, you can only receive a student commuter pass for 1 or 3 months.

Procedures for applying online for Student Commuter Certificate

You can apply for a Student Commuter Certificate online and receive it at our office. The details are as follows.

Password: password for UTAS login

* If you forgot your password, reset it at UTokyo Account Password Reset.

* If your UTokyo Account has not been issued yet, please consult your department office.



Institute of Industrial Science, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, and Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, JAXA can also issue a commuter certificate.

Please contact your institute if you wish to obtain a certificate.

Only eligible graduate students may apply in the following departments.  (Undergraduate students may not apply.)

・Institute of Industrial Science

Eligible students: Graduate students enrolled in the Graduate School of Engineering/Information Science and Technology

Place of issue: Applications are accepted online and certificates are received at the reception. (Building C, Cw203)

・Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, JAXA

Eligible students: Graduate students enrolled in the Graduate School of Engineering

Place of issue: Users’ Office in the back of the entrance Lobby, 1st floor of Research/Administration Building

Opening Hours: 9:00-18:00 on weekdays

3. To commute to an external institute

For students commuting to an external institute, we (Student Support Team) can issue a Student Commuter Certificate for Practical Training. Please send  "Application for Student Commuter Certificate for Practical Training" as email attachment. You can purchase a student commuter pass for the approved route by showing your Student Commuter Certificate at the station. It takes about 2 to 3 weeks for issuance, so please apply as soon as your commuting route is confirmed.

However, we can issue your certificate only in the following cases:

(1) Your laboratory is located in an external institute.

(2) You need to commute to an external institue more than 2 days a week to take classes.

Please consult us if you have any special circumstances other than the above.
