Math: Multiplication & Division. One of our longest units this year; we are finishing multiplication and division! We will finish this unit by applying all of the strategies we have learned to word problems with 2 by 1 multiplication/division equations. The hardest part for most 3rd graders is being able to read the word problem and knowing what to do with the numbers they are given. That will be our focus!
Science: Sun, Earth, and Moon & Rapid Changes! This month, we will squeeze in two science units and they are both fun! We will learn about the relationship between the sun, earth, and moon; this will include rotations, revolutions, seasons, climate, and time.
Social Studies: Economics! This unit will be a quick snapshot into how our economy works. We will learn through experience by creating our own businesses and developing a business plan. If we're lucky, we'll have time to build our own products!
February is usually met with our coldest temps of the year. Please make sure your student is dressed warmly for morning drop off and afternoon pick up! We do not go outside if the "feels like" temperature or the wind chill is below 40 degrees. If icy weather is predicted in the forecast, continue checking your email, phone calls/voicemails, and Class Dojo for updates on school closures.
*Any make-up days will be determined depending on the number of days that school is closed.
This is our last month before we begin test prep units for the Math and Reading STAAR test. They have all done a wonderful job adapting to the routines and procedures of STAAR testing. It's a VERY difficult task to sit and stay quiet for that long but, I think it makes them feel like "big kids". One of the most important parts about the STAAR is learning to truly do your best on one given day. We talk a lot about comparing it to other big events in our lives such as races, championship games, video game battles, recitals, etc. We'll be doing more of the mental prep work for STAAR as we move closer to the big days!
