Students who do not engage in regular reading over the long summer break may experience a decline in their academic performance. This loss of learning can be cumulative and by the time a struggling reader reaches middle school they may have as much as a two-year deficit in achievement attributed specifically to a lack of summer reading. While those who read frequently over the summer not only avoid the “summer slide,” but experience achievement gains! (Kids & Family Reading Report: The Summer Reading Imperative, Scholastic, 2019) We want all of our Gators to experience reading gains this summer!
Avoid the summer slide by participating in our Savannah Elementary Library Summer Reading Challenge below. Date and color in a letter every time you read for 20 minutes. Turn your completed challenge in by August 16, 2024 to be entered in a prize drawing! Every student who will attend Savannah Elementary next year is eligible to participate!
