Texas Bluebonnet Award

Read Five, Then Decide

What is the Texas Bluebonnet Award?

The Texas Bluebonnet Award is a children's choice literary award sponsored by the Texas Library Association. Each year a committee selects 20 books for the Master List. The books all must be recently published by authors living in the United States. The committee includes books of various levels for middle grade readers with different genres, fiction and nonfiction being represented. The purpose of the program is to encourage voluntary reading while increasing exposure to a variety of books.

Who can vote?

Texas students in grades 3-6 who have read a minimum of 5 books in their entirety from the current list are eligible to vote in January.

Do I have to read ALL 20 books?

No! It is not expected that any student read all 20 books. The list contains a variety of books at differing levels and interests. Not every book will be a good fit for every reader. Readers who read at least 5 of the books on the list can vote!

How do I keep up with which books I have read?

This year we will keep tracking sheets in Library. Each time you finish a book you can request your tracking sheet to keep it up to date so you will be ready to vote in January!
