AUDITIONS

Current 6th-8th Graders have the option of auditioning for higher levels of orchestra for next year.

Crownover Chamber (varsity) Orchestra auditions March 27-29. Students received music in class in early March.

Guyer HS auditions April 15-18. Music available on the GHS Orchestra website or from Ms. Harvey

Crownover current 6th-7th graders: auditioning is optional. Students who choose not to audition will be placed in Philharmonic (non-varsity) Orchestra.

Current 8th Graders: Auditioning is optional. Students who choose not to audition for a higher group will be automatically placed in the GHS Philharmonic Orchestra (9th grade orchestra) if you are signed up for orchestra for next year.

SOLO & ENSEMBLE EVENTS

Saturday, March 23 - Optional Solo & Ensemble Clinic at UNT $20-30

Monday and Tuesday, April 1-2: RCMS Solo & Ensemble Recitals - RCMS Orchestra Room

Any student in the orchestra program may sign up to perform on our recital, even if you are not participating in the contest. Students may request the performance night that works best for their schedule. Ensembles should discuss as soon as possible which night works best for everyone in your group. Students will sign up to perform on a sign-up sheet posted in the orchestra room. The night of the recital please arrive no later than 6:15 to warm-up and tune. Enter at the back of the school. Parents may report to the orchestra classroom and students to the ensemble room. Students should dress formally for this event.

Saturday, April 6 - Denton ISD Middle School Solo & Ensemble Contest - Calhoun MS

Students who are signed up for the contest will receive their time assignments soon.

YOUTH ORCHESTRAS AND SUMMER CAMPS

Youth Orchestras

Youth Symphony of Denton - Auditions will be held April 27 and May 4 for the inaugural season of a new youth orchestra that will serve students in the Denton area. Audition material is available from Ms. Harvey. Any student already preparing an audition for their middle school varsity orchestra or their high school will be allowed to use that audition material as their assessment material for the youth orchestra audition. Students/parents will email the director at youthsymphonydenton@gmail.com to request an audition time on the day of your choice. The rehearsal structure will be rehearsals once per week on Saturdays - 1 hour for String Orchestra and 2 hours for Philharmonic Orchestra, and approximately 4 concerts per year.
