April Field Trips (Prelude and Philharmonic)

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Parents of Prelude and Philharmonic students attending the upcoming field trip - please fill out the online waiver form at the link below. I just received this link from our contest organizer and I believe all students must have one on file to be able to participate in any of the activities at PinStack. Director will be Angela Harvey and for Director Email you will use my email address - aharvey@dentonisd.org

Liability Waiver

Prelude and Philharmonic will be participating in the Pride of Texas Music Festival that is being held at Pinstack in Plano. Students will receive an evaluation from a panel of judges and spend some social time together doing the activities provided at the facility. Please view detailed itinerary for your field trip day on the itinerary and permission form you received.

After School Rehearsals:

At the beginning of the year our after school rehearsals for this event were listed as To Be Determined due to the fact that we don't always know yet if we will get our first choice of contest date. Our rehearsals were set once we received confirmation of our date. Students should now have this written down on their trip info sheet and these date are up to date on our website calendar:

Monday, April 11 - Philharmonic rehearsal until 5:00

Thursday, April 14 - Prelude rehearsal until 4:45

Spring Concert Update

Our final concert of the year is on Tuesday, May 17. Our campus has been scheduled for some renovations to our stage area that were going to be taking place over the summer. The start date for this project has been moved up, so unfortunately all May fine arts events can no longer take place on our stage at Crownover. Due to this, I have secured the Guyer auditorium for our Spring Concert. I will send out detailed parking information as our event gets closer. For now, please note the following updates:

Philharmonic and Chamber after school rehearsal Friday, May 13 - this previously was listed as only involving Philharmonic 8th graders but I am going to change it to the whole group. This rehearsal is for a couple of combined pieces we will present on the concert.

Arrival and start time: to give families a little more time to make arrangements to get students and their instruments over to GHS I will change the start time of the concert to 7 rather than 6:30. Students will follow the warm-up schedule below. Please remember that warm-up times indicate that the student needs to be unpacked, in their seat, and ready to begin warming up at the times listed.

Prelude report to stage by 6:00 through the backstage entrance in the fine arts hallway - we will most likely unpack in the back stage area

Philharmonic report to GHS orchestra room by 6:20

Chamber report to GHS orchestra room by 6:40

Concert in GHS auditorium at 7:00

Solo & Ensemble Contest Results

On Saturday, April 2, Crownover had 55 students participate in the Denton ISD Middle School Orchestra Solo & Ensemble Contest that was held at Strickland Middle School.

All of our students received ratings of 2nd division "excellent," 1st division "superior," or 1+ Honors Award. The honors awards are given to the top soloists and ensembles from each judge’s room at the end of the day – each of the 6 judges heard about 55 performances. Crownover had the most 1st division ratings earned of any middle school and also the most 1+ Honors awards of any school.

You may view the list of our Crownover participants below to congratulate them and also learn who earned honors awards:

High School Auditions - GHS

Audition information and music packets

UPDATE - Audition Schedule Now Available

GHS orchestra auditions will take place the week of April 19. Auditions are optional and only for students who are trying to place in a higher level of orchestra than the traditional 9th grade (Philharmonic) level for next year. Students should have filled out an interest form on the audition information page on the GHS orchestra website to request a time to audition. Students will be notified soon of the day they will audition and most auditions will take place during their orchestra class time.

UPDATE - reminders from Ms. Hanlon:

  1. Remember that you are expected to play a SCALE (up and down….) according to the instructions you had access to

  2. Play the full packet (of excerpts designated for the orchestra you are auditioning for)

  3. There are metronome markings for a reason. Anything that is ridiculously under tempo means I may stop them.

  4. I want them to do well and they’ll go into the orchestra that is the best fit for their needs.

End of Year Party - Parent Volunteers

The RCMS Fine Arts departments will be collaborating on an end of year party for fine arts students. We will be doing an outdoor cookout after school on the early release day on May 25. We will need parent volunteers who are available to assist with student monitoring by around 12:30 or helping with preparing food beforehand. Please contact Ms. Harvey if you are available to assist us.
