Support Factors

Here is a glipse into the support factors for the people of Toccoa, Georgia. As visitors to the community these are the things that we saw, but we do lack the first hand perspective of the benefits of these support factors. People within the community potentially recongize other support factors, and they might view them in a positive or negative way.

Stephens County Hospital

Stephens County Hospital is an acute care hospital with 96 beds. It is changing the stimga of rural hospitals being poor health care providers. Just three years ago, Stephens County Hospital was losing 7.6 millions dollars in a year. In addition to this, they had extreme turnover rates of providers, and were the lowest ranked hospital in the state of Georgia. New leadership led for growth and expansion of the once suffering hospital. It has shown the story can change for rural hospitals, and they do not need to close when hardship arises. The closest level 1 trauma center is approximately 45 minutes away in Gainsville, GA. The positive changes to Stephens County Hospital have made it so more resources are avaible; in 2025 it might become a trauma center. Positive changes to this rural hospital will provide immense resources for the people of Toccoa, Georgia.

Healthcare

In addition to Stephens County Hospital, Toccoa has other health care services and facilities available. Spread throughout the area there are health care centers providing the following: dialysis, wound care, dermatology, urgent care, and a cardiovascular care. There are also assited living facilities for people who can no longer live on their own. Patients can obtain their medications throughout the town at local pharmacies.

Neighbors 4 Neighbors

Neighbors 4 Neighbors is a local food pantry offering assistance to anyone facing food insecurity. This great resource is open on Wednesdays from 10-11:30 am. Their website is an excellent resource for additional information on donating time and resources, as well as, benefitting from resources.
