中央大学は英吉利法律学校創設（明治18年）の当初より、英米の法律書の翻刻出版や講義録を発行し，後には大審院や行政裁判所の判決録をはじめ、多くの有益な出版を続けてきました。このような出版事業も、残念ながら第２次大戦中には中断せざるを得ませんでしたが、大戦後の昭和23年には現在の出版部を創設し、いち早く活動を再開させました。 

以来、大学における研究成果発表の各種機関誌発行業務と併せ、学内教員の積極的な協力はもとより、学外にも広くご援助を得ることにより、出版による大学エクステンション活動の充実を目指して、伝統の継承と視点の刷新を図り努力を続けてきております。大学の出版事業は文化の進展に大きな役割を担っております。

わが出版部もこの理想実現のため一層の努力を続けて参りたいと存じておりますのでなにとぞ、皆さまの変わらぬご支援をお願いいたします。 

　Chuo University was established in 1885 as Igirisu Houritu Gakko (English Law School). In the early year, Chuo University published reimpression correspondence courses of British and American law book. Over the years, judgment record of Supreme Court and Administrative Litigation Court, and other publications were included. During the World War Ⅱ, publications was stopped completely.

　In 1948, Chuo University Press was founded. Focus was on various journals on results of research announcement of the University. We aim at substantiality at the publication of the University. Now Chuo University Press about 40 journals and 30-40 books every year.
