Lessons 1-11

Students will be learning various parts of a informational/explanatory writing and have many opportunities to practice this form of writing. Listed are some components we will review:

• Gain an understanding of informational/procedural writing
• Produce and illustration or graphic
• Introduce a topic
• Gather and group related information
• Use linking words to connect ideas
• Use linking words to compare and contrast ideas
• Develop a topic with details
• Use illustrations to communicate ideas
• Write a concluding statement

Lessons 12-16

Students will be going through the writing process: prewrite, draft, revise, edit, and final copy to create an article.

Lessons 17 and 18

• Research and sort evidence
• Record observations

Performance Based Assessment

Students will be using knowledge from lesson 1-18 to complete an article. I have attached the grading rubric used for this assessment.
