What do I need to participate?
You will need an updated physical (on a MSHSSAA physical form) on file to be allowed to participate in any of the tryout week
Current East Students: you need to be registered at the school
Make an account at https://fze-ar.rschooltoday.com/ and upload all required paperwork including an up-to-date physical
Incoming East Students: You will need to show a paper copy of a MSHSAA physical & have a digital copy to upload once the season starts
You will need to fill out a clinic permission form (found in the information meeting packet)
You will need to fill out and turn in a squad placement form (provided at the 1st clinic)
The only squads you are allowed to be placed on, are the squads you select on the squad placement form. You cannot add or remove a season post-tryouts. Quitting a season will result in not being able to try out for a year.
The Freshman squad is for freshman tryout candidates ONLY
The JV squad is sophomore tryout candidates, freshmen and juniors can make this team at the coaches' discretion (but tryout at their respective levels)
The Varsity squad is junior and senior tryout candidates. Sophomores can make this team at the coaches' discretion (but tryout at the JV level)
All the above must be completed before the 1st clinic to participate, not having the forms above completed will result in not being able to try out.
What do I need to wear for clinics and tryouts?
Open Gyms & Clinics: You need athletic clothing (workout attire) such as a t-shirt & shorts and cheer shoes. If you do not have cheer shoes, you can wear tennis shoes/sneakers.
No high tops (such as Converse or Jordans), sandals, slides, heels, flip-flops, boots, crocs, etc.
No spaghetti straps or crop tops
No jeans
Bring a water bottle!
Tryouts: You will need to wear black shorts, a skirt, or pants, a plain white T-shirt, and tennis shoes/cheer shoes. (NO spanks/Nike pros without shorts on top). Bows/ribbons are encouraged!
If your white shirt has a large logo or large words, turn it inside out.
Jewelry, clear spacers, and/or bandaids that cover those are NOT allowed in any cheer-related activity EVER.
Don't get a piercing right at the end of the season and expect it to be healed by tryouts or right after camp and expect it to be healed by the start of the season.
Always show your piercer your timeline to heal so you can make an informed decision before getting a new piercing.
Jewelry includes, but is not limited to: rings, bracelets, anklets, necklaces, earrings, nose piercings, belly piercings, eyebrow piercings, watches, hair ties, etc.
Nothing can be on your wrists while stunting.
YOU WILL BE ASKED TO REMOVE JEWELRY AT ALL CHEER-RELATED ACTIVITIES, make sure you can remove it on your own!
Hair completely up and in a ponytail (must be off your shoulders)- NO claw clips allowed.

When are results posted & how do I see them?
As soon as coaches finalize teams, The Official Teams sheets will be posted HERE on Saturday at 10:00 AM!
Results are posted using your tryout number by squad and season (Varsity Fall, Varsity Winter, JV Fall, JV Winter, Freshman Fall, and/or Freshman Winter).
There will be no other information listed beyond your tryout number.
If you selected to be considered for multiple teams/seasons, make sure to check all the squads you selected for your tryout number!
What can help my score beyond the skills taught at clinics?
Remember that every time you are in front of a coach, you are contributing to your tryout. Your citizenship, attitude, and current standing in the school, during the open gyms, and during clinics are considered!!
Smile!
From the time you enter your tryout to the time you leave.
Yes, even when you're not cheering
Voice!
Be loud enough for the people in the back of a crowd to hear you.
Imagine the coaches are sitting 50 feet further away than they are.
Words need to be short and loud.
Speak as if every. word. is. followed. by. a. period.
Spirit!
Hit the crowd
Clap and wave
Do motions
Do a kick or a jump
You can also tumble, but this is not required.
Shout something positive:
"Let's Go Black and Gold"
"East Lions!"
"Go Big Gold"
"FZE Is Number One"
"Come on EHS"
"Get it"
"Let's Go"
"Come on"
Recovery!
It's not about the mistakes, it's about how you respond to making a mistake. (smile, don't let it shake you, and keep going!)
"Smile big and hit the next motion twice as hard."
A confident wrong motion always looks better than a "half" correct motion.
Be Game-Day-Ready!
Show us in your tryout how you would walk onto the field or the court on game day!
We are looking for what a crowd would want to see.
Know the material and give us an exciting performance.
How do I stay up-to-date with the cheer program?
Right here on the FZE Cheer Program Website!
Is there an open gym prior to clinics & tryouts?
