Your FUSD1 issued iPad has two apps available to allow your student to access online books for classes as well as reading pleasure. This year, MEMS Library has begun to build an e-book collection for our students in Sora, and both Sora and Hoopla give your child the option to connect to the virtual collections from the Flagstaff City-Coconino Public Library. We really want our students to take advantage of the fun that can be discovered through reading books. COVID will not stop us from experiencing the enjoyment of a good book!
Once your student signs into their Sora or Hoopla account, it can also be accessed any time through a web browser or the app on phones and PC's. In fact, with a public library card, electronic materials can also be checked out and read directly through the public library's catalogue.
MEMS English teachers are using Sora to give students access to the grade level reading materials they use during their classes. Students click on the app and sign in (using their single sign-on) to access class books, or browse the collection to find a book to read independently. They can also connect their account to the Public Library, even without a library card!
How to add the Flagstaff Public library to your Sora account:
Step 1: In Sora, click on the three lines in the top righthand corner of the screen.
Step 2: Click on "Add a library".
Step 3: Start typing "Flagstaff City Coconino County Public Library", then select it from the list that pops up.
Step 4: Select any book.
Step 5: Click "Borrow"
Step 6: Select "Flagstaff School District 1", then click "Sign in using Flagstaff Unified School District 1"
Hoopla is the other library app that all students in FUSD1 can access. To use Hoopla, students need to create an account with their public library card number and PIN (see instructions below). If they don't have a public library card, their parent/guardian can sign up for one here. Then they will go to the Self-Service app on their iPad and click to install the Hoopla app. Once the app is downloaded, they can log in to their account and access thousands of e-books, e-audio books and even movies. The public library permits 3 loans a month on Hoopla.
We hope that students will take advantage of these fun opportunities for finding their next favorite books. Getting engrossed into a book can be a great way to relieve stress and join an adventure when we cannot get out otherwise. Please encourage your student to take advantage of these opportunities on their iPads or other device. Happy reading!!
How to Create a Hoopla Account:
Step 1: Go to www.hoopladigital.com , and select "Get Started Today".
Step 2: Create a new account (with your parent/guardian's permission). You will need an email address for the account.
