IPads

Your child receives a set up iPad from the librarian. The iPad comes in a protective case, with a keyboard attached, an Apple block (12w) and an Apple cord.

How to keep your iPad in good shape

  • The case must remain on the iPad at all times to make sure that the iPad works properly.

  • The keyboard is powered by the battery pack inside the protective case - keep your keyboard connected to help the iPad keep its charge.

  • The Apple block has the correct wattage that is required to charge the iPad correctly. The Apple cord comes with the device when purchased from Apple. All of these items are checked out to your child on their library account.

Your Student's FUSD1 Account on the iPad

All students enrolled in FUSD1 are assigned a student ID number. We use the student ID number to create a single sign on account (SSO) that uses the same username and password for all of the apps on the FUSD1 issued iPad. Some apps that are used for instruction require students to sign in using an email. Since no student in FUSD1 has a valid email address, we use this student ID number to create a fake email address that we use to sign in to these apps. The fake email is the student ID number followed by the @ symbol and fusd1.org; for example 12345678@fusd1.org.

Updates

All FUSD1 iPads have been set to automatically update when Apple and/or the instructional apps push out an update. The updates need to be allowed to occur.

To check for updates:

  1. Click on the Settings app.

  2. Click on General from the left-hand side list of the screen.

  3. Click on Software Update.

  4. This screen will tell you if your iPad is up to date.

To ensure that your iPad finishes updates properly:

  1. Plug in the iPad with the cord and block (12w) provided.

  2. Make sure it is connected to your wifi source.

  3. Close all the apps.

  4. The iPad needs to be left alone and must not be running any apps to allow the updates to successfully update.

The amount of time required to update the device and apps varies. It is best to allow the iPad to complete these updates at night after school or during the weekend.

iPad Charge

Your child’s iPad must be charged to at least 70% every day so that they can participate in classroom activities on their device. The iPad needs about 3 to 4 hours of battery charging each day, so it's important that your student follow the steps below each day after school.

Also, keep in mind that certain functions drain the iPad's battery more quickly: Zoom, leaving apps open on the iPad, leaving tabs open in Safari, and disconnecting the keyboard from the protective case.

At the End of Each School Day

Students are encouraged to follow the steps at the end of every school day regardless of In Person or Remote Learning. The only way that students can be prepared for learning the following day is to maintain a functioning iPad. It is the student’s responsibility to have the tools required for learning. Please remember these steps:

  • Close all tabs open in the Safari app (click on the two blue squares in the top right hand corner of the screen and tap the black X that appears for each tab)

  • Close all apps on the iPad (double click the home button and flick all apps up)

  • Secure the keyboard to the protective case (this allows the keyboard to charge)

  • Plug the iPad into a power source using the Apple block (12w) and cord provided by MEMS for at least three to four hours. (We recommend charging it overnight)

If all of these steps are followed each day, your child will have great success using his/her iPad for school. If you are noticing that these steps are not working, please call the Tech help line at 928-773-8259, email memsipadhelp@fusd1.org or click here to submit a help request.
