Project IDEEM -- Infusing Data Science Education into Elementary Mathematics -- will host a four-day summer workshop 9a - 1:30p on Monday June 9 - Thursday June 12 2025 (all days on campus except Wednesday is virtual) to increase credentialed TK-5 teachers’ data science literacy. Selected teachers will earn $600 and get to engage in practical, hands-on learning activities that can be infused into their existing math and elementary curricula. No prior data science training required!
Two goals for Project IDEEM teacher participants are:
To strengthen content knowledge of data science concepts for TK-5 elementary teachers.
To gain experience infusing data science activities into existing TK-5 elementary mathematics curricula.
If you have questions, you may email ideem@fullerton.edu or contact Dr. Bridget Druken (Principal Investigator) at bdruken@fullerton.edu.
Timeline: We will begin reviewing applications April 16, 2025 and notify selected teachers no later than May 5, 2025. Teachers not initially invited will be placed on a waitlist, and may hear from us that if positions open up.
Acknowledgments: This project is funded through a California State University Chancellor's Office grant and CSUF's Mathematics and Science Teaching Initiative grant. Project leadership team from CSU Fullerton includes: Dr. Bridget Druken (Dept. of Math), Dr. Cherie Ichinose (Dept. of Math), Dr. Jessica Jaynes (Dept. of Math), and Dr. Mallika Scott (Dept of Elementary and Bilingual Education).
