PACK (TED) Talks

About:

This is my newest adventure {risk}! This is a current project that I am trying out with a select group of students. In this last six weeks, students are working on a rather large project where they step into the role of a Marketing Director and are in charge of planning and creating materials for their own amusement park. As an alternative, a handful of students are working on PACK Talks, TED style talks answering the question: How has Technology transformed your learning this year?

I will be working with this small group of 15 students, and they will be collaborating as well, throughout the six weeks to plan and give their talk. We are using TED-Ed Club materials and Talks as a guide.

I have not done this project with students before, so I am learning right along with them!

Learning Targets:

Analyze TED Talks to identify core elements of an "idea worth sharing."

Plan, rehearse, and give your own talk on the specified topic.

Redefinition

• The ultimate goal is for students to share their Talks live and to film them so that we can share them with the community. Whether we can to share them live or not, we will be creating a PACK Talk site with the recorded presentations. Rather than show or tell others about what the can do with technology, students are using the TED Talk model to dig deeper into how technology has transformed their learning.

5 C's:

Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking

• This project has the potential to cover all 5 C's. The plan is for students to practice digital citizenship as the collaborate and communicate with their team members to take their ideas through the entire creation process. Students have the autonomy to answer our guiding question however they choose. Our guiding question in itself is asking them to think outside the box, but we will also be discussing and trudging through some big ideas through the 5 planned lessons using TED-Ed lessons/videos.
