Google Docs Lesson

About:

As a former ILA teacher, I know how long it takes for students to type their essays! I wanted to help the ILA teachers, while meeting a few of the required objectives in Tech Apps.

In their ILA classes, students were going to revise a CBAP that they had written at the beginning of the school year and type their final draft for a Major grade. My idea was to have students bring their written drafts to Tech Apps to type. The ILA teachers would not have to reserve technology and spend a few days on typing, because the students would be typing their final drafts in my class.

The ILA teachers graded the content of the essays and I graded the format and typing.

Learning Targets:

• Use the correct finger placement and ergonomics to quickly and efficiently type an essay for ILA.
• Format an essay within Google Docs, based on a set criteria.

Augmentation

• Students used Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms, and Google Classroom to type, self-assess, and turn in their ILA essays.

• This lesson linked the Tech Apps curriculum with the ILA curriculum, illustrating a bridge between what they do in ILA and what they are learning in Tech Apps.
• Students had multiple opportunities to self-assess using digital rubrics and a self-assessment & reflection Google Form.
