Google Forms Lesson

About:

Students built a simple survey about any school-appropriate topic and shared with their peers to collect data. This lesson connects to the Google Sheets Unit, as students used the responses and Sheets to format and analyze their authentic data.

Originally, this lesson was a teacher-led lesson using Nearpod. Unfortunately, my son was sick that day and I had to change the delivery of this lesson. Instead of presenting on Nearpod, I used Screencast-O-Matic to teach the lesson and added questions and reflection pit-stops using Edpuzzle. Students were also using Padlet to share survey question ideas. I was able to monitor and respond to the survey ideas on Padlet from home!

• Explore the basics of Google Forms and compare/contract Forms to other Google tools.
• Create a survey for peers using Google Forms.

Augmentation & Modification

• Rather than simply discussing survey ideas, students share on Padlet! Every student had a chance to add an idea. Students having trouble or who didn't quite understand the prompt had the opportunity to see others' ideas.
• Using Google Forms, students were able to create, share, collect, and analyze data for a short survey on a topic of their choice.

Communication

• Students shared ideas (all 300 on the same Padlet!) for their surveys. Ultimately, students shared their surveys with their peers and relied on the data from their peers for the analysis aspect of this project!

Critical Thinking

• Students analyze the data and wrote conclusion statements to explain what the data from their surveys communicated.
