Students were introduced to Google Sheets and it's capabilities. The unit began with a basic overview of spreadsheets and how to name/locate cells and cell ranges. We formatted a practice spreadsheet together using Nearpod, screencasts of each step, the projector, and their own computers. Students followed along as I walked them through using the toolbar.
In an effort to connect our learning to other content areas and provide an authentic use for spreadsheets, I worked with the Science teachers to use principles, data, and questions from their recent Physics unit to create a Google Sheets practice activity. Students recorded data, formatted the data, created custom formulas to calculate speed at certain points, and created graphs of movement. At the end of this activity, students reflected on their learning in this Unit by using FlipGrid and discussing what they already knew, the coolest "tricks and tips" they learned, and advice they would give to other students learning how to use Google Sheets.
Finally, we returned to Google Sheets after learning how to use Google Forms to create a survey. Students shared their surveys with peers and provided peer feedback on the creation of their surveys. Students then used Google Sheets to format and analyzed their survey results.
