When there's a concern with a student:
Attitude toward school
Academic growth
Relationships with peers at school
Personal development
Struggling with the death of a loved one
Reaction to changes within the family that is affecting his/her learning at school
If a student is having emotional or social challenges that are keeping them from remaining in the classroom, I can visit with that student as a support service to the educational environment. Student referrals may come from the classroom teacher, principal, assistant principal, parent, etc. My goal is to help that student cope with the current situation, so they will be successful in the classroom. Sometimes working with an individual student can take a couple of meetings. If that is the case, I will notify parents when I see a student more than once and will obtain permission.
Frisco ISD School Counselors do not work with students one-on-one in a therapy/clinical role. If parents would like more in-depth counseling or therapy, I can provide a list of resources, after the parent(s) sign a release form. This list is a courtesy to parents and staff of those believed to provide various counseling services. However, Frisco ISD does not endorse or recommend any counselor(s), and we are not authorized to make such recommendations. Please contact me to obtain the most recent resource list from FISD.
