Young Scientists: Our STEMscopes science program has been in full swing this year at GRAIS. The students have been learning through inquiry investigations and asking questions. They are expected to apply their learning, not just memorize facts as they discover that science is always evolving! We shared part of this exciting science program at our Fun with Fossils-Family Curriculum Night.
Aspiring Artists: Congratulations to Kohana Fontinha! She is the state winner in OJJDP’s 2018 National Missing Children's Day Poster Contest and will be recognized at a ceremony at the State House in late May.
Promoting Acceptance and Inclusive Practices: April is Autism Awareness Month. Over the past two weeks, Mrs. Brouilette's (Speech Therapist) students have been brainstorming different ideas for a bulletin board. They chose to combine autism and spring, with the title, “Autism Awareness is Blooming.”
Once they decided what to include on the board, students each selected something to add that they created; birds, flowers, kites, bugs, etc. This task involved many goals they are working on in speech and language, such as using higher level thinking skills, following directions, providing explanations, using expanded sentence forms, and more!
The students will continue to highlight information about autism. Topics will include things like how to be a good friend to everyone!
