Learning Environment: Freetown Elementary School creates and maintains a safe and collaborative learning environment that motivates students to take academic risks, challenge themselves, and claim ownership of their learning.
Below: Grade 3 Presidential Wax Museum
Students researched a President or a First Lady and then prepared an oral and visual presentation for a "wax museum." Families were invited to visit the museum, press the information"button" and hear the Presidential figure come to life and present facts and stories from his or her life.
Establishing a Professional Culture: Freetown Elementary School staff demonstrate the capacity to reflect on and improve their own teaching practice using informal means as well as meetings with teams and groups to gather information, examine issues, and develop new approaches in order to improve teaching and learning.
Staff attended embedded Professional Development with A+ Literacy Consultant, Julie Allsworth. Julie modeled a small group guided reading lesson using the Jan Richardson model from, Next Step Forward in Guided Reading. Staff then had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the lesson and/or format.
