Blue Stockings Society served as group at Saint Francis University for women's empowerment and education. It was founded by one of my occupational therapy classmates, based on the Blue Stockings Society of mid-18th century England (learn more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Stockings_Society). I worked on the e-board of the Blue Stockings Society as secretary. My responsibilities were to attend all meetings and events, help facilitate discussions, and help come up with fundraising ideas.
Omega Zeta Nu is a sorority that celebrates student diversity -- the sorority motto is: "Individually different; Collectively unique." Omega Zeta Nu is a means for advocacy and inclusion on campus at SFU, as many members including myself were involved in running other clubs such as S.E.A.L and Blue Stockings Society. The "Zetas" strive to make Greek Life a safe and fun environment by being an inclusive community and by speaking out against problematic Greek Life issues, such as hazing.
In Omega Zeta Nu, I served on the Student Chaplain, New-Member-Orientation, and Fundraising chairs. Additionally, I participated in service with our philanthropy, the Centra PA Humane Society.
S.E.A.L was a campus group at Saint Francis University founded by some of my Omega Zeta Nu sisters. S.E.A.L aimed to serve as a place for LBGTQ+ students to discuss LGBTQ culture, history, and current events. In a Catholic university environment, we struck a balance between advocating for our own values in the context of our university's values. One of our accomplishments was to meet with our class president and discuss how to ameliorate rifts between the church and queer communities.
As S.E.A.L secretary, my responsibilities were to attend our meetings and events, help recruit new members, help come up with fundraising ideas, and help facilitate discussions during club sessions.
