Empowering Students Through Physical and Health Literacy
Physical Education and Health Education are vital academic subjects that educate the whole child—physically, intellectually, and socially. Our curriculum is rooted in the latest national standards, aimed at developing students who are not only physically active and health-conscious but also socially responsible members of our community.
Through our quality curriculum, we empower students to develop:
Health Literacy: The agency to access, evaluate, and apply credible information to make informed decisions for their own well-being and to advocate for the health of their community.
Physical Literacy: The competence and confidence to engage in meaningful movement across a lifetime, recognizing the joy and benefit of physical activity for the mind and body.
Academic and Cognitive Focus: Enhanced concentration, self-regulation, and goal-setting skills that transfer directly to classroom achievement.
Social and Personal Responsibility: Essential life skills including conflict resolution, inclusive communication, and empathy to navigate diverse social environments effectively.
We believe the key to getting more children moving starts with access, education and empowerment. Our work is grounded equal access and opportunities for all students to find a joy for movement and engage in a healthy, more active lifestyle.
Our department is dedicated to fostering Physical Literacy and Health Literacy, alongside Personal and Social Responsibility. We view Health and Physical Education as essential components of a child’s academic success. Aligning with SHAPE America’s National Standards, our program prepares students with:
Critical Thinking & Advocacy: We move beyond basic facts, teaching students how to analyze health resources, navigate services, and advocate for personal and community health.
Meaningful Movement: We cultivate the skills and confidence necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities, promoting a lifestyle that values physical and mental health.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): We integrate practices that improve focus and stress management while fostering cross-cultural competence, negotiation, and collaborative problem-solving.
Lifetime Habits: We provide the tools for students to set realistic goals and maintain healthy behaviors that extend well beyond their school years.
Best for: Making fitness fun, family challenges, and "stealth" exercise.
