Brilliant beginnings!

Having reached the end of our Establishment Phase and with our children now well settled into school, we have launched our projects for this term - with some Brilliant Beginnings indeed! Our Early Years children will be busy learning about themselves and others through their 'Who Am I?' project, whilst our Year 1's and 2's will be finding out about real-life as well as fictional 'Super-duper Heroes.'

At FPIS, we are passionate about books, story-telling and reading! And not only have our Year 2 children enjoyed a virtual session with Dara McAnulty, the very talented young author, naturalist and conservationist this week, but we are also extremely excited to have award-winning, critically acclaimed children’s author Smriti Halls visiting our school very soon! As well as fostering a love of reading (and writing!) for our children, we hope these events will inspire everyone from those who are just beginning to read through to our most confident and fluent readers. Please look out for further details coming soon!

Have a lovely weekend! :)

FPSA Early Years Tea Party

Our new Early Years children and their families all enjoyed the Tea Party on Saturday 25th September. With lots (and lots!) of cakes and plenty of fun to be had it was a wonderful way for everyone to come together. Thank you to all who came along to support this event - and to the FPSA team for all their hard work.

School Council 2021-22

Our children have been voting for their school council class representative this week - and we were delighted to announce the elected members in our Celebration Assembly today. Congratulations to Aanandya, Kayden, Teddy, Maya, Ned, Martha, Clementine Benj and Sebby, who will be our school council members for this academic year!

Miss Aggarwal and Miss Roberts will be working with our School Council members this year, providing support and guidance in order that the members represent the views of all our children and to help to improve our school to make it an even better place to be! Throughout the year, the school council will be getting involved in organising charity events, helping the teachers to make decisions about how our school is run and taking on projects that further support and enrich learning and development for all our children. We are looking forward to finding out more over the next few weeks!

Harvest Celebrations

As well as launching our new projects we have also been learning all about the festival of Harvest.

We have been lucky enough to have two assemblies to help us learn more about this.

Emma from St. Peters Church came to visit us and shared lots of lovely information all about Harvest. The two key words we had to focus on were: celebrate and share.

Mr and Mrs Baker (Miss Dexter's Grandparents) joined the KS1 children for a Zoom and spoke to us about the importance of Harvest in the Christian Faith. We had to guess the different seeds and vegetables (some of them were really tricky!), learn about why seasons are so important for our farmers and even learnt a song with some actions.

Foodshare donations

We are very proud to be supporting Maidenhead Foodshare once again this year as part of our learning about Harvest. Thank you to all who donated food items, your contributions will be very much appreciated.

Year 2 Author 'Visit'

On Thursday the Year 2 children participated in a virtual author visit. Dara McAnulty is a naturalist, conservationist and author who incredibly is only 17 years old! He was talking about his book: Wild Child. It is an amazing book which teaches us how to look after our natural world and the living things to look out for. It is going to really help us in our project Super-Duper Heroes, when we begin to think about how we can be real life superheroes to look after our planet! We were also able to watch a fascinating video about how the illustrations were made for the book too!

Early Years News

This week our Bumblebees, Caterpillars and Dragonflies have began their project 'All about Me!'

For their Brilliant Beginning they all disguised themselves using their choice of dressing up items ready for a real life 'Guess Who' game! The children also enjoyed trying to recognise their teachers who also joined in the fun.

They are very excited to be bringing home their first reading book to share at home today. They will also bring home their reading record and home learning journal. This contains information and passwords which can help to support learning at home.

Year 1 News

Over the last couple of weeks we have ended our Establishment Phase and have had an exciting start to our new project Super-Duper Heroes!

To end our Establishment Phase, we performed our class raps to the Year 2 children and then had an amazing time learning how to use all of our new playground equipment, with the help of the Year 2 children. We were able to learn how to safely play with the parachute, skipping ropes, archery, quad shooter, trucks and our MUGA area on the playground.

We have had lots of fun thinking about superheroes this week as we begin our new project. We also became detectives as Evil Pea caused havoc in our school! Poor Supertato and the other veggies were in trouble and we had to investigate what had happened and how to solve the problem!

Year 2 News

To end our Establishment Phase we have been working hard on thinking of games and activities to teach our Year 1 friends. We worked in teams to decide how we could be positive role models and teach the Year 1 children how to use our playground equipment in a safe and fun way. We displayed our Super-PoWeRs, showing passion, well-being and respect and were very patient and sensible. We were also fabulous rap stars and our VIPs (Mrs Indge and Mr Wallace) were blown away by our amazing class raps!

We have been swooping into our Super-Duper Heroes project thinking all about what superheroes mean to us and how we can use this to develop our writing. We have been writing our own poems this week, thinking about the descriptive language we could use to describe things we might find in a superhero's pocket. We have also been thinking about how important our bodies are, drawing around ourselves and labeling each part of our body both inside and out!

Awesome achievements!

We are so happy to have been able to share some of our children's fantastic achievements outside of school during our Celebration Assemblies.

Well done to Rachal who was presented with a medal after her very first session WWFC after school club session in recognition of her super goal-scoring efforts! What a star!

Congratulations to Amy and Riddhi for completing the RBWM Libraries Summer Reading Challenge. A great effort - we hope you both keep up the good work with your reading!

After delays due to COVID and then a broken arm, we were delighted to hear that at last Liam has achieved a yellow belt in Karate. Liam was determined not to give up - and after practising very hard and putting in a lot of effort to remember all his moves, he performed brilliantly on the day. Well done Liam!

Eshaal has also been very busy over the holidays, completing the RBWM Summer Holiday Reading Challenge. Congratulations - what a super effort! It is always lovely to hear our children are passionate about reading out of school too!

Well done to Stanley for a putting in a super effort during his WWFC after school club session - and for always having a smile in his face too! We think Stanley looks very proud indeed!
