Magnificent middles!

As we are now more than halfway through our projects for the Autumn Term, our children have continued to have some very exciting events and experiences to enjoy and enrich their learning. Whilst Year 2 enjoyed a visit to Oaken Grove Park earlier in the week, our Year 1 children were getting busy with an ambitious plan to recreate Windsor Castle in our school hall! Meanwhile, our children in Early Years have been emersed in a week of Nursery Rhymes and Songs which concluded in a wonderful dress-up day today.

Our fundraising efforts for Children in Need this year have also been incredible. Lots of spots - and a huge amount raised so far. Please see below if you haven't had a chance to donate yet, there is still time!

With more events and experiences planned over the coming weeks, please do keep checking our school calendar for updates, as well as our newsletters, of course!

Have a lovely weekend! :)

Eco Club

We have some exciting news to share, this year our school has made the decision to work towards Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation!

Our planet (and all life on it) is already beginning to feel the catastrophic effects of climate change, plastic pollution, biodiversity loss and a myriad of other environmental challenges. Our hope is by doing this we will empower our pupils with the passion and skills to protect our planet now and throughout their lifetimes, including as they grow to become leaders, decision-makers and educators themselves. Each class has an Eco-School representative and we will be meeting throughout the year. We look forward to sharing this journey with you all!

Meet our Eco-School representatives!

Remembrance Day

On Thursday 11th November we had a whole school Remembrance Assembly where we learnt about the significance of the day and held two minutes silence together. Throughout the week in each year group we explored different aspects of Remembrance Day.

In Early Years they made their own poppies. In Year 1 they made poppies to go on their Guard's hats and to be displayed on our model of Windsor Castle. In Year 2 we learnt about the important role soldiers and animals played in the First and Second World Wars.

Children in Need

We have all had a brilliant time today supporting Children in Need. As well as lots (and lots!) of spots and ears, the children have enjoyed some fun activities throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone for sharing their 'get spotted in your spots' photos via Seesaw. As you can see, even our super site team were caught on camera!

We have already smashed our target of ÂŁ250, by raising an incredible ÂŁ466 so far! Thank you to everyone for your support!

If you haven't donated as yet, there is still time to do so. Please click on the link below.

Early Years News

In Early Years we have been celebrating Bonfire Night and Diwali. We learnt all about Guy Fawkes and Rama and Sita and how people celebrate both occasions. The children created some beautiful, colourful firework pictures and Rangoli patterns.

This week we have taken part in National Nursery Rhyme Week. Thank you to all who joined us for our busy learning morning. The children enjoyed making their springing spiders! During the week we also created walls for Humpty Dumpty, went fishing for ten little fish and used our fine motor skills to catch Incy Wincy Spiders! We have learnt and practised lots of nursery rhymes and to finish off the week we have all dressed up as our favourite character. Look out for photos and videos of your children on Seesaw! We have also shared a photo of the Early Years team in our costumes. Can your child tell you which nursery rhymes we are from?

Year 1 News

We have been busy using all of our 'hands-on' skills to make lots of exciting things! We started by making our Diva lamps and learnt all about Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights. We learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and during our Outdoor Learning sessions we made Rangoli patterns. We had our Magnificent Middle together lighting our diva lamps.

In preparation for our visit to Windsor Castle we have been learning all about the history and key features of the castle, as well as the important role the Guards have in looking after our Queen and the castle. To help us learn more we have been making our own guard hats, coats of arms, Knights Armour and this week have been working together as a year group team to make our very own Windsor Castle. During our Outdoor Learning sessions we made dens to have a picnic with the Queen. We even performed our own changing of the guards ceremony in front of our castle. It has helped us to become experts of Windsor Castle!

Year 2 News

We have been thinking all about real-life superheroes and most importantly how we can become real-life superheroes too. We have been thinking carefully about the super-powers we have which can help us with this.To give us some inspiration we learnt about Nicholas Winton, a local real life superhero and how he made brave, bold decisions to look after others. We created portraits of him using charcoal too!

We have also been exploring ways that we can look after our local environment and how this can have a bigger impact throughout the world. We made our own Wind Turbines and tested them using a fan (the closest thing we had to wind!) to help us think about their importance and impact.

For our Excellent Ending we went on a school trip to Oaken Grove Park. We had two missions to complete! Firstly: vsit the Nicholas Winton Memorial Garden and use our knowledge to find the symbols and representations of the Kindertransport Mission. Secondly; we went on a litter picking mission! We couldn't believe how much rubbish was in our local park, so we put on our gloves and cleaned the park. We were very proud of ourselves!
