District Accounts, Passwords, and MFA
District Accounts, Passwords, and MFA
District Accounts
Your district account is created and maintained by the Technology Department using Microsoft tools. This account syncs with other services so it can be used for multiple platforms, including Google.
District Email
Staff members' district email addresses are first.last@fortthomas.kyschools.us
District email addresses are used as the "username" for many district services, but not all.
Microsoft Outlook is the district's supported email solution. You may use either the web based application available through Microsoft365.com, the Outlook application installed on your computer, or the Outlook app installed on your mobile device.
You cannot access your district email account through Gmail.
District Shortnames
Staff members' district shortname is typically the user's first initial followed by last name, however there are some exceptions to this rule due to duplicate shortnames.
The district shortname is most commonly used for logging in to a computer or logging in to ClassLink.
Password Resets
Navigate to https://myaccount.microsoft.com - you will be prompted to sign-in if you are not already signed-in.
Choose the Password option in navigation panel to change your district password.
MacBook Users - Please note that your changing your district password does NOT change your MacBook password!
Don't Know Your District Password?
Navigate to https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/
Enter your district email address (firstname.lastname@fortthomas.kyschools.us) in the Email field, then follow the remaining prompts.
This method will require you use the MFA method connected to your district account.
Account Security Reminders
District passwords MUST be a minimum of 15 characters
(passwords do not require any additional complexity)
District passwords MUST be changed a minimum of every 180 days
(you will receive automated email reminders a few days prior to expiration)
District accounts MUST use a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method
You may choose to use text messaging or an authenticator app. Authenticator apps are more secure but must be self-supported by the staff member since it is not a district provided application. Only change your MFA method if you wish to switch the method itself or if you need to change the phone number.
MFA Resets
Navigate to https://myaccount.microsoft.com - you will be prompted to sign-in if you are not already signed-in.
Choose the Security Info option in the navigation panel to change your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method. Only do this if you need to change your MFA method or phone number you wish to use for MFA.
