Visual Art 1

Visual Art 1 is a foundational course that introduces students to the basics of both two dimensional art and three dimensional art. Students engage in the Creative Process to research, develop ideas, experiment, plan, create, revise, present and reflect on their work.

Throughout the course of the year students will develop skills in understanding how and why art is created. Students will introduced to a variety of media and techniques as well as both historical and contemporary artists.

This course is the prerequisite for Visual Art 2, Sculpture 1 and Photography 1.

Art History & Art Criticism

Students are introduced to both contemporary and historically important artists. Students learn how to analyze visual art and build up an art vocabulary.

Studio Production

Year one students are introduced to a variety of 2D and 3D media. Students learn the basics of drawing, painting and creating compositions while building up a strong technical skill set.
