Social Studies News

In Georgia Studies class, we are examining significant factors that affected westward expansion in Georgia between 1789 and 1840. Georgia’s land distribution polices after the American Revolution underscore why Georgia’s capital moved across the state, finally landing in Atlanta. During the state’s westward expansion period, Georgia would undergo robust population growth which would be a catalyst for economic development. With the development of a rail system, improvements in education, and development of new technologies, Georgia would become a significant southern state in the nation. Throughout the unit, students will complete a notes quiz, a vocabulary quiz, and a unit test. Dates will vary by teacher; please check your child’s itsLearning page for more specific information on assessment dates. The unit will conclude by November 4th.

Are you tired of getting the “FINE” answer, when you ask….how was your day? We know it can be tough to get middle school students to share what is really going on. Here are some questions to help open communication with your child.

Overall - How was your day on a scale of 1-10? What made it that number?

Overcoming Challenges- What was your biggest challenge today? How did you overcome it?

Celebrating - What was the highlight of your day?

Self Reflection- What kind of person were you today?

Goal Setting – What is a goal you have for tomorrow?
