VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES


Teacher Assistant ESOL Class

The TA is in charge of providing personalized feedback and assistance to students during class. This person supports the Instructor with translation (Spanish, Albanian, French) when necessary and contributes to supervising group activities or projects. In addition, the TA supports the instructor by taking notes on the individual students' progress. The time commitment ranges from 3 to 6 hours a week. The TA is expected to be in class at least one morning/evening a week on the following days and locations:


Teacher Assistant ESOL CONVERSATION Class

The TA is in charge of providing personalized feedback and assistance to students during class. This person supports the Instructor with translation (Spanish, Albanian, French) when necessary and contributes to creating a safe and friendly environment where students are encouraged to practice their speaking and listening skills. More importantly, the TA's main task is to help students find their own voice to become more confident when speaking in English. The time commitment ranges from 2 to 4 hours a week. The TA is expected to be in class at least one morning/evening a week on the following days and locations:


Social Media Content Creator 

The Content Creator is responsible for designing and producing content that reflects the IALC Community ESL Program mission and programs. This person supports the Program Assistant and Program Manager with conceptualizing, planning, and executing multilingual social media campaigns. The CC must be creative, passionate about working with immigrants and possess a great sense of humor. The CC should be proficient in our students’ languages (preferably Spanish, Albanian, Italian, French, and Bengali). The time commitment ranges from 3 to 5 hours a week, and the volunteer can do most work remotely. However, the CC is expected to travel to the program locations to obtain footage, students’ testimonials, and pictures and attend occasional meetings with the Program’s Team.

 

Office Clerk

The Office Clerk supports the Administrative Assistant with maintaining student records and documents. In addition, the OC assists with data entry tasks on in-house and external platforms; and plays a crucial role in student outreach and enrollment processes. Preferably, the OC is a bilingual individual (Spanish-English, or Albanian-English) passionate about establishing relationships with community members. The time commitment is 3 hours a week on Mondays from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Dealy Hall 205A (Fordham University - Rose Hill Campus).


Translator (Multiple Languages)

Program translators work with the Program Manager and Assistant to create relevant documents and content in the various languages spoken in the communities we serve. The volunteer should be proficient in any of our students' languages (preferably Spanish, Albanian, Italian, French, Korean, and Arabic). The time commitment ranges from 2 to 3 hours a week, and most work can be done remotely.
