English Classes
Our English language program offers participants an opportunity to improve their language and communication skills which are essential to succeed in New York City. Additionally, the Program provides our students with intercultural and life skills training that propel them to find better job opportunities or continue their post-secondary education. 84% of our participants can see results in their proficiency after one semester of instruction.
Here are some details about the program:
The IALC Community ESL Program welcomes students at any point in their learning journey, from beginners to advanced learners.
Every class level lasts two semesters. Classes start in September (fall semester) and continue until May or June (spring semester).
Students are pre-tested to determine the most appropriate level for their needs, and they are post-tested at the end of every semester to measure their progress.
Students participate in three class sessions per week: two sessions are focused on integrating the four language skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), and one session is focused on conversational and speaking skills.
Participants can choose between taking classes in the mornings (9:30 am - 12:30 pm) or in the evenings (6:00 - 9:00 pm). The program is offered at Fordham University’s Rose Hill Campus and St. Francis of Assisi Church in Manhattan.
Certificates are awarded upon successful completion of each class.
Students may advance to the next level if they satisfy the requirements for a comprehensive evaluation of their language proficiency (along with solid attendance and participation).
At the IALC Community ESL Program, we encourage all participants to find their voice, express themselves, and build a community with their peers. We are proud of our participants' linguistic and cultural diversity, and we celebrate them as an essential part of New York City and Fordham University.
