James Stabler-Havener

Director

Mr. Stabler–Havener has more than 20 years of experience as a TESOL educator and administrator. He has instructed university students and led teacher education workshops in the US, China, India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Thailand. As an English Language Specialist and Senior English Language Fellow, he developed and delivered training programs for the Regional English Language Office of the US Department of State.  His interests are educational access and affordability, intercultural communication, content-based instruction, language assessment, and project-based learning.

Hie-Myung Jo

Associate Director

Dr. Jo has been teaching English to linguistically and culturally diverse students (K-12, post-secondary, adult) in all levels for more than a decade. She holds a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, and three MA degrees in TESL, TEFL, and Educational English Language. Her specialties include intercultural communication, second language acquisition theories and methodologies, multicultural education, educational technologies, functional linguistics approach, English for Academic/Specific Purposes, Literacy, iBT TOEFL, and Business English.

Yimeng Li

Program Coordinator, ESOL & Digital Literacy Instructor

Yimeng Li is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in ICI (Innovation Curriculum and Instruction) program at Fordham’s GSE. Her research interests center around the interaction of innovative curriculum pedagogies and multicultural education. She is also a part-time faculty member and ESL instructor at the Institute of American Culture and Language at Fordham University. 

She holds an MS in TESOL at Fordham’s GSE. She has been teaching English to linguistically and culturally diverse adult students for four years. Her previous teaching site also includes Community Impact at Columbia University. 

Annette Lee

Annette holds an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and a BA in East Asian Studies. She joined the IALC in 2018 as a faculty member and enjoyed teaching Intro to Intercultural Skills and Intermediate Integrated English Skills. Now that she has transitioned to an administrative role at the IALC, she assists students with registration, plans workshops and cultural excursions for students, and co-creates content for the IALC's Instagram page.   

Nilda Alejandro

Nilda Alejandro was born in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico and now proudly resides in the Bronx, New York.  She learned about the Community ESL courses offered at Fordham through her local church, Our Lady of Mercy.  She became involved as a student and completed the diverse courses offered for three years.  Now, as an administrative team member, Nilda wants to provide information and support to students who are committed to learning English and help them reach their academic and personal goals.

Clarisa González

Community ESL Program Assistant

Clarisa González has been working in the education field for over ten years.  She has worked with children from the ages of 3 to 18 years in all subjects, but currently focuses on computers and technology.  A proud alum of CUNY City College and the CUNY Graduate Center, she holds a BA in Modern Languages and an MA in Women's and Gender Studies.  González has acquired years of administrative and social media experience from her work at Immaculate Conception Church.  She is trilingual, loves to read, and hopes to continue to enrich her Bronx community.

Hayne Jung

Hayne Jung is an accomplished educator with over two decades of experience in teaching English to linguistically and culturally diverse students across all age levels, from kindergarten to college students in Korea and the U.S. She is fluent in both Korean and English. Hayne holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Early Childhood Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Christian Education from Princeton Theological Seminary.

 

One of her most cherished roles is as a teacher in the IALC Community ESL Program, where she loves teaching and making a positive impact on her students' language learning journeys. Teaching is not just a profession for her; it's a calling. She takes great pride in helping students achieve their language learning goals and is dedicated to promoting interactive learning experiences that enrich the educational journey of her students.

Nancy Parish 

ESOL Instructor

Nancy has a passion for words, foreign languages, and the quirks of the English language. She is very happy to be sharing it with her students, which matches her enthusiasm for helping immigrants become part of the American experience as they learn our language and culture.

Nancy is a professional musician and has taught music in the elementary classroom for many years. Her modalities are piano, organ, voice and conducting. She is music director for a community theater in New York and sings in a small jazz ensemble.

Graham Robinson

Graham completed the TESOL Certificate Program at Teachers College, Columbia University, and has taught ESL at Fordham, Columbia, and Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada. He has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Queen’s University and degrees in law and translation from New York University.

Saada Muntasser

Saada Muntasser has been teaching ESL in NYC, New Jersey, and abroad for over 20 years! Saada has taught ESL classes at Pace University, Baruch College, LaGuardia Community College, Westchester Community College, Kaplan, and many more. Saada’s favorite lesson activities are Sound Pyramids, Grammar, and Free Writing. Saada has an MA in Applied Linguistics from Teachers College, Columbia University in NYC; and plans to pursue a PhD in

Special Education. She was an English Language Fellow with the U.S. Department of State in the Kingdom of Bahrain 2017-2019.

Margaret Ibasco

Margaret Ibasco has been teaching ESL at Fordham University since 2018. She also teaches at Lehman College (CUNY) in Bronx, New York.  She completed Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Education (ED.M.) at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York.  In 2001, she was chosen as one of the Fellow Grant Awardees by Center for Teaching and Learning with Technology (CTLT) at the New York Institute for Technology.

Zarui Migranyan McKinney

Born and raised in Moscow, Russia. Holds a BA and MA in International Journalism and German Studies from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), and a Ph.D. in World History (specialized in Political  Culture of the XVIIIth century Britain) also from MGIMO. Spent 10 years teaching Western Literature and Culture at her Alma Mater. In 2018 graduated from the MA TESOL program at Hunter College CUNY. Spent four semesters tutoring at Fordham University's Writing Center. Teaches College Writing and Intercultural Skills at Fordham, and ESL at St. John's University and ASA College.

Zara lives in Jersey City, NJ with her teenage daughter, grouchy husband and two adorable dogs. In her spare time she enjoys walking along Hudson and listening to K-pop.

Camille Trabanco

Camille has over 40 years of teaching experience, everything from Philosophy, History and Community Service Classes. For over a decade she has been teaching ESl classes to a variety of students in a number of different settings. At Temple University she worked with international students with provisional acceptance to the University. Now that she is back in New York, she is excited to bring her expertise, dedication and enthusiasm to students at Fordham.




Rita Taryan

ESOL Instructor

Rita Taryan has over twenty-five years of professional ESL teaching experience in the United States and Canada. She has worked with non-native English-speaking students whose English-language goals have been driven by career and professional concerns, academic preparation, and integration into a new country. She teaches at Fordham University and for the Community ESL Program through the Department of Youth and Community Development. Her expertise is in teaching and assessing adult learners. She is fluent in Hungarian and has worked as a translator of Hungarian fiction and letters. Rita is a published writer and a winner of a Norma Epstein Foundation Award in Creative Writing.

Cameron McArdle

Cameron is currently a senior at Fordham College Rose Hill. He is doubling majoring in Spanish Studies and Urban Studies and has a minor in French. In the spring of 2022, he studied abroad in Granada, Spain, where he lived with a host family and was able to further develop his Spanish skills. In volunteering as a teacher’s assistant, Cameron is excited to gain experience in an ESL classroom, as he hopes to teach English abroad post-graduation, and to get to know the students.

Lusa Holmstrom

Lusa is currently a sophomore in the Honors College at Rose Hill. She is double majoring in Spanish Studies and English, and is a prospective student in the Graduate School of Education. Growing up in Southern California, many of her childhood friends were in English learning programs at school, which started her love for ESL education. She also currently volunteers at a local elementary school in The Bronx, working with fifth-grade students learning English. Lusa is excited to teach conversation classes and hopes to work in ESL abroad after finishing her Master's.
