Ojené is a fourth-year doctoral candidate in the School Psychology program. In 2018, Ojené received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University at Albany. Her passion for eliminating systemic barriers to mental health and educational services for underserved youth has led her to pursue this career as a school psychologist. As a Black woman, she is aware of the essential role that mental health professionals hold in providing counseling support to immigrant youth and youth of color, as they experience cognitive and social-emotional trauma and stress attributed to their intersectional identities. In addition, she is interested in anti-racist, intersectional research that centers the voices and lived experiences of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) in higher education to inform praxis and pedagogy. Her passion for eliminating systemic barriers to mental health and educational services for underserved youth and for providing therapeutic support to youth of color led her to become a member of the CCMH team
