Themes of Catholic
Social Teaching

Biblical Connection:

Micha 6:8  reads that “Act justly, love kindness, walk humbly with God”

With these family channels, they are using God’s creation, children, and taking advantage of what they have to offer for materialistic things instead of acting with love and kindness.

The Call to Family, Community and Participation:

The Call to Family, Community, and Participation focuses on the belief that people have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking together the common good and well-being of all, especially the poor and vulnerable. In the Bible, it reads that “Act justly, love kindness, walk humbly with God” With these family channels they are using God’s creation, children, and taking advantage of what they have to offer for materialistic things instead of acting with love and kindness.

Life and Dignity of the Human Person:

Before anyone is someone’s child, they are a human being. That human being has the right to be treated with respect and dignity. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops explains Life and Dignity of the Human Person  “touches on that in our society, human life is under direct attack from abortion and euthanasia. The value of human life is being threatened by cloning, embryonic stem cell research, and the use of the death penalty. The intentional targeting of civilians in war or terrorist attacks is always wrong. Catholic teaching also calls on us to work to avoid war. Nations must protect the right to life by finding increasingly effective ways to prevent conflicts and resolve them by peaceful means. We believe that every person is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every institution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person.”

Biblical Connection:

Matthew 22:37–39, states “ And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

God calls us to love each other as we would love ourselves. This verse and lifestyle that the Bible holds connects to the abuse that these children are facing because their parents aren’t treating their children as they would treat themselves. Not in the sense of putting themselves before their children but by exploiting them unethically for fame and money.
