Call to Family, Community, and Participation

This theme explains that everyone has a responsibility to engage in society and work toward everyone's well-being, especially the weaker and more vulnerable members of society.

In the foster care system, it takes more than one person within this system, it takes families, communities, and a lot of participation to make sure the child is in a home to gain a family or even a community. The scripture of James 2:14-17 says “If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,’  but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith in itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”  I feel the Church and scripture highlight the importance of putting action with our words because we can speak and hope for the best for a child in a bad situation within the foster care system. Still, nothing will change unless people can come together as a family and community to participate in making a change or getting involved within the foster care system. Whether that is visiting, donating, or even adopting change starts somewhere, and the first step is to get involved.
