According to a study conducted by the Human Rights Campaign...

  • 44% of lesbians and 61% of bisexual women experienced rape, stalking, or physical violence by an intimate partner, as opposed to 35% of heterosexual women.

Approximately one in two bisexual women and transgender people will be assaulted in their lifetime.

LGBTQ+ people also experience discrimination when they are seeking help, which further pushes them into the closet.

The Human Rights Campaign and National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs found that...

  • 85% of victim advocates worked with a LGBTQ+ sexual assault survivor who was denied services because of their identity.

  • 7% of the 39% of LGBTQ+ sexual assault victims who sought out police assistance said the police were hostile, and 12% said that the police were indifferent to their story.
