RAINN Day

RAINN Day was created by Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, or RAINN, which is the world’s largest anti-violence nonprofit sexual assault organization. RAINN Day was established to spread awareness about the high levels of sexual assault that occur at a young age. Because sexual assault can be an isolating experience, the purpose of RAINN Day is to stand in solidarity with survivors and support them.

On RAINN Day, high school and college students draw blue triangles on their hands in solidarity with those who have been sexually assaulted. The triangles symbolize megaphones, showing that speaking up against sexual violence is important. Students then post a picture of their hand with a meaningful caption regarding speaking out against sexual assault and the hastag #LetsGetLoud. This year, RAINN Day was celebrated on Tuesday, April 14th.

I was originally planning to organize an in-school RAINN Day, where everyone would participate in activities during lunch and draw the blue triangle on their hand. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, I took over the Fontbonne announcements on April 14th and encouraged everyone to participate in the social media portion of this day. This day showed sexual assault survivors that they are not alone and support can be found anywhere, even in quarantine.
