All-Community Forum Presentations and Documents
APRIL 9, 2024
The first FMA all-community forum was held on April 9th from 6-8 pm where families/caregivers/community members reviewed information about the Extended Learning Time (ELT) program at FMA and discussed in small groups about the importance of ELT in choosing/staying at FMA and what the expectations people had for their children by receiving the extra learning time afforded through ELT.
There was also a presentation about School Council and Friends of FMA and the different roles that caregivers can take in these two organizations and how to get involved.
SUMMARY OF ELT FEEDBACK- Spring 2024
As families and caregivers met about ELT in April of 2024 the same types of conversations took place with FMA staff during their all-staff meetings.
The results and feedback of the families/caregivers and staff were then reviewed by a small committee of family and staff representatives and the presentation was shared with people through the Friends of FMA website.
OCTOBER 21, 2024
The second FMA all-community forum was held on October 21st from 6-8 pm. The conversation focused on the future of ELT at FMA. As the 2024-2025 school year was the last year of guaranteed funding for ELT by Cambridge Public Schools, the meeting was focused on the future.
The meeting ensured that everyone understood that ELT might not be something that would be guaranteed, small groups had further discussion about whether ELT was still an important part of FMA, and a general discussion on how FMA families and community members could advocate for ELT, if needed. There was support available to all members on how to organize and advocate.
MARCH 10, 2025
The third FMA all-community forum was an emergency meeting held on March 10th from 6-8 pm. The week prior, Cambridge Public Schools had made an informal announcement the the FMA Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP) classrooms would be moved out of the school to a more central location in the 2025-2026 school year.
This news, along with some other actions about re-invisioning the school with limited family engagement was of concern to families and caregivers. The meeting focused on allowing participants to discuss concerns and potential impacts about moving the CPP classrooms as well as concerns around the district's plans for the future of FMA.
These concerns will drive aspects of a discussion by lead family representatives with the Interim Superintendent on March 14th, 2025 (summary to come)
