FMA SCHOOL COUNCIL
A strong School Council with representation from all of the different voices of the school including administration, faculty, families and community members is one of the ways that we work together to make the Fletcher Maynard Academy a great school for our children.
The work that the School Council does allows for teachers and administrators to work closely with families and the community to become more responsive to the needs of the students.

Who is on the School Council?
The School Council is run by two co-chairs. One of the co-chairs is the Principal and the other co-chair is a parent/family member. The parent/family member is elected through the FoFMA. There is also an equal number of representatives from the staff and family. Currently there are three staff member and three family members. Representatives have voting privileges and are points of contact for other staff/families that have issues and agenda items for the Council. There are also non-voting members including the Family Liaison, FoFMA President and key community members.
It is an open meeting, meaning anyone may join and participate.
How are Representatives selected and how long is their term of service?
Representatives are elected by the school community and serve for a two year term. FoFMA facilitates the election of the family co-chair and representatives. Any family member may be nominated and the election is school-wide with all family members having the opportunity to vote. The Co-Chair and Family Representatives are elected to be spokespeople for all parents and families of FMA.
What is the School Council Responsible for?
There are four main areas of responsibility for the School Council Representatives:
To assist the principal in adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local policies and statewide student performance standards
Identify the educational and support needs of students attending the school
Review and suggest adjustments to the annual school improvement plan
Strengthen school-family relationships through family engagement, school events and effective communications
