What are nicotine salts

Nicotine salts are formed when nicotine is extracted from tobacco plants and combined with an acid. Nicotine salts have surged in popularity in the past five years. Nicotine salts are what is found in electronic vapes as well as smokeless nicotine products such as Zyn, Velo, and On! 

Nicotine pouches are NOT a safe alternate to tobacco products. While they don't contain tobacco, they still contain nicotine and other harmful chemicals. Nicotine pouches have been become very popular with teenagers and college students. These products have been falsely marketed as "performance enhancers". Below is an example of this. 

Zyn vs. dip vs. chewing tobacco

Zyn/Nicotine Salts- No tobacco; Only nicotine salts. Placed in the inner lip. 

Dip (Moist Snuff)- Finely ground tobacco that is moist or placed in pouches. Placed in the inner lip. The user routinely spits while using the product. 

Chewing tobacco- Loose tobacco placed between the gum and cheek. The user slowly chews the tobacco so the juices are released and absorbed. 

Nicotine salt products, like Zyn, have dangerous amounts of nicotine in them. For reference, a cigarette only contains 8-12mg of nicotine. Nicotine pouches start at 3mg but increase steadily to amounts including 18mg, 21mg, and 28mg. Products with high nicotine concentrations are more likely to get kids addicted to nicotine.
